It depends what you mean by challenging? I had to study for a year in Italy and sit all my exams in Italian. I couldn’t speak a word of it before I went. That was academically the hardest thing I have done. When I was a teenager my mum was ill and in hospital for a long time and, as the oldest child, I felt very responsible but lost. Dealing with that was very challenging emotionally. The hardest thing that I have ever done physically was the Inca trail. It is a walk in Peru through down a path that the Incans used to follow between towns in the Andes mountains. I saved for ages from my engineering salary to go. It is really high up. There is no oxygen and your body feels really heavy. Every step is a massive effort. Getting to the top and seeing the amazing view is well worth it though and its not that hard (not Kilimanjaro or Everest or anything).
